Launch of Si-Quat by Affix Labs | A Clear Long Lasting Anti-Viral Coating

Long-term self-sanitising clear surface coating developed to kill the corona virus. A simple spray on solution that kills 99.997% of microbes on contact, and lasts on any surface for up to a year.

At a time when we are witnessing the potential dangers of contagious diseases in a highly interconnected world, it has never been clearer that viable long term solutions are needed to protect ourselves in potentially contaminated environments. Unchecked, contagious diseases can spread through indirect contact via public surfaces where the virus can survive for days. Even with high frequency disinfection procedures, there is still a window between cleanings for viruses and bacteria to spread.

AFFIX Labs

Based in Finland and specialising in chemical binding technology, Affix Labs has released a new anti-viral and anti-bacterial product, “Si-Quat”. Tested to kill 99.997% of microbes that land on treated surfaces within 1 minutes of contact. This clear anti-viral coating provides a ongoing effect that keeps disinfecting surfaces even in between cleaning protocols.

Applied on almost any material it dries to create a semi-permanent clear coat, which when used, will slowly wear down over time, much like a thin varnish. When treated right, this protective layer can remain active for more than a year. This makes it a highly effective long-term solution for disinfecting and maintaining permanent sanitary conditions on all surfaces within any environment, from public buildings and facilities, offices, transport infrastructure, schools, hospitals and more.

The big question for many entrepeneurs is “how do I open my business and how do i adjust my operations to the new normal?” AFFIX Labs is focused on the reopening of small businesses like restaurants, bars and sportsclubs and is one key solution in the arsenal of products and protocols needed for “the new normal”.

To support local businesses Affix labs started a campaign to give away coating to small busineses in need.

Si-Quat

Containing quaternary ammonium compounds, a proven and popular sanitising agent used safely for decades, and is recommended globally by government and private organisations for protecting humans against the coronavirus (Covid-19 or the pathogen know as Sars-Cov-2). Affix Labs takes this ingredient and hyper-activates it through molecular structure reorganising, allowing it to dry and stay active for as long as the coating lasts. Whilst surface contact will wear it down over time, when present the coat never loses its effectiveness.

Si-Quat application is easy and quick. Sprayed onto a surface (and wiped across for smoother materials and results), it dries in a couple of hours, after which it adheres to the treated surface and is safe to touch.

Active Ingredient

Quaternary ammonium have positively charged ions that work to disinfect by attracting the negatively charged membranes of microbes and enveloped viruses, either breaking them apart, or disrupting cell activity. Both of these actions work to kill germs within a few minutes. Because it kills microbes physically, there is no chemical reaction, meaning it does not lose its effectiveness over time.

Quaternary ammonium compounds are used around the globe in a multitude of applications, from dental work to baby toys, often in disinfectants or at very low doses to stop or slow bacterial growth. Common items that have integrated quaternary ammonium are computer keyboards, PVC water pipes chew toys for babies and many more. This does not mean that these items are able to kill viruses, as that would require a different implementation such as that used by Si-Quat. What it does show, however, is that it quaternary ammonium is not a direct health risk. The coating, once dry, has no impact on human health if touched.

Effectiveness against Covid-19

There are currently no recognized certifications to make a claim that a product works against Sars-Cov-2, Covid-19. Because of its effectiveness against genetically comparable Corona viruses such as SARS-CoV and MERS, and the method of its interaction with enveloped viruses in general, it is assumed as effective against Covid-19. This is a common method of assumption used in the industry. AFFIX Labs is working together with universities and test labs around the world to peer review the findings.

Recommendations & Endorsement of quaternary ammonium compounds:

Quaternary ammonium has been recommended or found assumed effective by the following organisations:

WHO, World Health Organisation | IATA, International Air Transport Association | NIH, US National Institute of Health | EPA, US Environmental Protection Agency | ECHA, European Chemical Agency

(Si-Quat, Silane Quats, Si4 Quaternary ammonium, Silane quaternary ammonium are all the same or similar active ingredients.)
