Australian-based Company FMS Training Calls the Need for More Female Forklift Operators

FMS Training Director Jocelyn Doherty spearheads the company’s mission to make male-dominated industries a thing of the past.

Shortage of forklift operators has long been a problem in Australia. Even though solutions have been made to address the issues being faced by construction, transport, and logistics, the scarcity of skilled workers still looms among today’s decision-makers. Jocelyn Doherty, Director of forklift operations training firm FMS Training, knows this problem all too well. To address the issue, she calls on more women to help out and take their part in solving the dilemma by enrolling in forklift training courses.

“We absolutely need more women in leadership, yes. But we need a balance of genders at all levels, in particular, male-dominated industries like construction, transport, and logistics. We need to start breaking down the stereotypes and encourage more women to try these fields, especially if we are going to tackle our current skill shortage,” Doherty said.

As the Director of FMS Training, Doherty has personally witnessed an exceptional number of amazing female forklift graduates over the years. “It’s amazing to help break the mold of what is such a male-dominated industry and see others do the same,” she exclaimed.

FMS Training is a proud female-owned, Queensland-based, Registered Training Organisation (RTO 45189). It offers courses on Beginner and Experienced Forklift Training and Licensing, Working at Heights, Confined Space, White Card, Verification of Competency, and Onsite Training. It offers courses seven days a week, catering to all skill levels.

For over 30 years, FMS Training has established itself as a top-tier provider of forklift training and assessment services in Queensland. Having assisted more than 10,000 students in obtaining their forklift accreditation, it has garnered a reputation for excellence recognized by construction, transport, and logistics industry leaders in Australia.

The company’s team is not only highly skilled and passionate but also deeply committed to ensuring the success of its students. In particular, FMS Traning is dedicated to helping aspiring forklift operators in Brisbane obtain their licenses.

FMS Training boasts the largest fleet of forklifts among all training providers in Brisbane, enabling it to offer the most comprehensive two-day forklift course in the region. Its pass rates are reflective of this feat, and it is proud to have one of the highest success rates of all registered training organizations (RTOs) in Queensland.

Upon successful completion of their Forklift Operations (LF) Forklift Training Course, students receive a High-Risk Work License (HRWL) in LF, regardless of whether they completed the entire course or simply refreshed their forklift license (suitable for expired or overseas forklift license holders).

A forklift license obtained through FMS Training is valid for five years in Queensland and allows licensees to operate any type of forklift, regardless of height or weight, including High Reach Forklifts.

Feedback for the company has completely endorsed its competence and methodology. Nishad Anuradha, one of its trainees, said “Excellent training institute with all the new facilities and machinery. Instructors are great and deliver high standards. Highly recommended.”

Ross Mcgrath, another trainee, said “I did the 2-day course last weekend and had a great experience! Learned a lot of new and important things about safety and driving!”
